What amazed me as I read the book was how Julie could keep track of all the women. I pictured a huge chart with all the different groups, different countries, waterways, landmarks. I began to picture the women, which was easy to do with the detailed descriptions, and see them riding their horses, doing battle, comforting each other, talking in counsel. Yesterday I had a conversation that made my heart sing.  You see, the most rewarding thing.  The most humbling thing.  The most validating thing is knowing that what you wrote is being enjoyed by others.  The personal risks a writer takes!  Totally exposing the soul. 

The distilling of spirit into language is a process that requires real commitment to the outcome.  Writing begins long before the first words of a story ever become one with the page.
